7.3 Engage with parents/carers
During EDN4100 I had engaged with parents on a daily basis including introductions on the first day and interactions daily with parents/carers. Below is the required SIMLAB teacher/parent interview regarding bullying. Reflection My first interview I thought went really well. I was quite nervous but seemed to project confidence. After a conversation with Ann-Marie, I had a second attempt which also went well. The adjustments that were made were minor but also seem to have my parent calm and at ease with her daughters position in my classroom.
I feel the experience was valuable. Being able to calm an angry parent may not always be this easy but definitely an idea on how to use the SIB model and focus on an end goal. In particular, using statements that assure the parent you are listening to their concerns, finding the best way to address the issues (whether it be instant or a plan) and keeping up communication with the parent so they are seeing implementation of the strategies decided (KidsMatter, 2019) https://www.kidsmatter.edu.au/primary/news/communicating-positively-parents-and-carers
